HOLY Family ~ HOLY DAY?
Where is your holy place? Pilgrims journey far and wide to holy places visiting sacred shrines, lighting candles, lifting up prayers every day. Have you ever considered the ground where you are standing to be holy? Your presence alone makes it holy. The challenge lies right before your very own eyes.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
The upcoming feast day celebrated on the eighth day of Christmas is the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. The Catholic Church holds this feast in high esteem, so much so that January 1, 2015 is a Holy Day of Obligation.
As our family ponders the heightened level of commitments and activities happening in the next few days, suddenly the Holy Day obligation of Mass surfaced. Our teenage son who drives his own car said, “Which Mass will we go to, Mom? Can we check around town?” That being said, as providence would have it, there are many options on the table! Feeling blessed I surmise that we will not only attend a Holy Day Mass but that we will attend as a family. Of the many gifts I unwrapped this Christmas, the most miraculous gift was the Holy Spirit leading our family to a front row pew an hour before Chrismas eve Mass to pray the Holy Rosary~Joyful Mysteries together.
Just as Mary said “YES” we too are called to respond “yes” to all things holy. My prayer is that your New Year’s resolution starts with a simple, humble, personal and sincere response to the Holy Day of Obligation in your midst.
Hail Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us!
